Day 36- Debark (again) 8/11/12

The weather still proving pretty vile, we decided to cut our losses and retreat back to a lower level. In fact, this was something of a blessing in disguise, as it was an absolutely delightful walk through countryside that was something akin to a cross between the Peak District and Swiss alpine valleys - and so beautifully green. As we walked on, we passed many locals going about their business with their donkeys etc. Everyone seemed always delighted to see us, particularly the children who wanted to shake our hands, practice their English etc. Many of course on their way to school, clutching their books ("English for Ethiopia", and biology, maths, physics etc - all in English). Ian had brought more of his stickers so was a great hit.

That evening we had another almighty storm (in, I repeat, the dry season) with tremendous thunder and lightning right overhead). The return 100m or so from restaurant to hotel was something of a major expedition in its own right - not just the torrential rain but the mud, mud, mud
