Day 126- Mossel Bay 6/2/13

Decided that we had to do something a bit more strenuous, so walked the 13.5K St Blaize Trail - but not after I had been "attacked" by a dassie (well, it bit my toe seemingly right down to the bone). The nearest relative to a dassie, by the way, is apparently the elephant, even though it looks more like a guinea pig. The trail goes all along the coast, which looks very much like north Cornwall in glorious sunshine. I wish I knew more about geology to understand more about the rocks hereabout. Part way along, we were delighted to see 20-30 dolphins swimming "to meet us", jumping up and surfing in the waves - fantastic.

Further along, we climbed down to the beach to see PP13b, a large cave where many remains of prehistoric man (back 100,000 years?) have been discovered. I am as certain as I can be this was included in one of Alice Roberts' programmes on the evolution of man. Above the cave, Ian spotted a peregrine falcon perched high up, but of course this had flown by the time I arrived.

Had another absolutely excellent meal, this time at Route 57. (Duo soup, kudo/ostrich/springbok steaks, and baked ginger pudding). Sorry to go on about the food, but the standard - and presentation - is so good everywhere here).

On the way home, we were stopped by the police as Ian had apparently not stopped at one of the many, many stop signs. A slightly worrying time for us all, and of course particularly for Ian, but we were eventually allowed to proceed on our way with no international criminal record. (NB we just cannot understand why traffic on the quite obviously major road has to stop at virtually every side road. We find their speed limit decisions rather mind boggling as well).
